Why can't one erw tube mill cover all pipe sizes?

"One machine for all" may sound appealing, but when it comes to high-frequency tube mills, specialized and properly matched equipment is the key to stable operation, good pipe forming quality, and high production efficiency.

The production range of a erw tube mill is limited because key components, such as the machine structure, power system, tooling, and HF welding unit — are specifically engineered for certain pipe sizes and wall thicknesses.

1.Structural Design Limitations

The drive system, frame distance, and roller gaps are all tailored to the pipe size. For example, one tube mill machine made for 20–60 mm tubes just isn’t strong enough to handle the pressure needed to form 100 mm pipes.

2.Tooling Sets Are Size-Specific

Each tooling set fits only a certain pipe size.

3.Drive System Constraints

Small-sized tube mill machines use drive components meant for light-duty use.

Running heavy or large pipes can overload the system, cause damage, and shorten the machine’s lifespan.

4.HF Welding Power Matching

The power level of a high-frequency welding system is configured based on the pipe’s wall thickness and material. If the power is too low, it won't penetrate thicker pipes; if it's too high, it may burn through thinner pipes or cause excessive burrs and weld defects.

If you plan to produce multiple sizes of pipes, 1.you can give up some specifications and choose a mid-range model that can cover most specifications; 2. You can invest in two or more machines with different configurations according to actual production needs. 3.You can share your specific pipe sizes with us, we’ll help you find the best setup.
